Although my Dad had worked for big companies that gave him a big paycheck and outside benefits, I believe he regretted not starting a business in his youth. Even if he had wanted to start a business, he had no idea which business to invest in or how to go about it. My father was a brilliant man full of wisdom. And it was in his retirement years that he finally understood something: his wisdom could be sold to others. His knowledge could be bought. So he wrote books to tell others what he had discovered. He started a soap company of his own. He began tutoring people on the same skills he had been rendering to the companies he worked for. He created his own fortune by selling a solution to a problem. Business isn’t about having a shop. Business isn’t just about buying and selling. If it solves a problem, it’s business.
